Richard "Dick" Lee Roehl

Richard”Dick” Lee Roehl, 77, of Janesville, WI died Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, FL. He suffered a massive stroke on February 3rd while wintering with his long time companion, Marge Ware, in Orange Beach, AL. Dick was born in Center Township, Rock County, WI on July 22, 1933, the son of Glenn and Lillian (Kane) Roehl. He graduated from Orfordville High School and served in the U. S. Navy from March 4, 1953 to February 8, 1957. He married Susan Ware on October 14, 1961 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Janesville. Dick was employed by General Motors, 34 years, as an Inspector. He retired at age 55. He was a member of the Footville American Legion Post and U.A.W. Local # 95. He was long active in Little League and Youth Baseball programs in Janesville. He was an assistant coach on the Janesville American Legion baseball team that finished 3rd in the 1989 World Series. Dick was an avid golfer and member at Bass Creek Golf Club. He also enjoyed daily card games and volunteering at The Cancer Challenge (Bentonville, AR) with his good friend Norm Hanson.
Surviving are his 3 children, Timothy (Amy) Roehl of Verona, WI, Christopher (Nancy) Roehl of Bentonville, AR, Sarah (Randy) Hanson of Janesville, WI, 11 grandchildren, Douglas Wakefield, Nicole and Grant Roehl, Zachary, Olivia, Sophia, Amelia and Samuel Roehl, Gabrielle, Connor and Maxwell Hanson, 1 great-grandchild, Jackson Wakefield, 4 siblings, Gerald (Doris) Roehl, Patricia Keesey, Kenton (Diane) Roehl all of Janesville, WI, Glenda Johnson of Stoughton, WI. Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Roehl on October 31, 2001. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and step-mother, Margaret Roehl, and his half-brother, Elwood Roehl who was killed while serving in the Viet Nam War.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, February 14, 2011 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Janesville with Father James Kuhn presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with military rites by Kienow-Hilt V.F.W. Post # 1621. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dick’s memory to the Janesville Youth Baseball and Softball Association c/o JYBSA 26 S. Jackson St. Janesville, WI 53548.
